A new video showcases the support and warm welcome on offer at a support group and community clinic in Spalding, Lincolnshire, for people with COPD and their carers.

The Happy Breathers group, facilitated by Lincolnshire Community and Voluntary Service (LCVS), was awarded a  NHS England community grant to showcase the good practice approach of involving patients in healthcare it demonstrates.

NHS England said: “NHS England’s celebrating participation in healthcare grants have been awarded to showcase good practice approaches developed to involve people in healthcare.

“Lincolnshire Community and Voluntary Service (LCVS) works with health services to try new ways of working, increase knowledge, develop good practice and demonstrate ways to improve services.

“The ‘Happy Breathers’ Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) project helps participants learn about COPD in a relaxed setting and improves patient outcomes by enabling better self-care.

“Patients have been involved from the start and their feedback has helped to steer the project. Participants have reported they are less socially isolated, more confident about managing their condition and benefit from peer to peer support.”

South Lincolnshire CCG (Clinical Commissioning Group) is working with partners including Lincolnshire Community and Voluntary Service (LCVS) to deliver the clinic, based on the RIPPLE model developed in Coventry.

Seed funding to support the set-up and running costs was provided by the Health Foundation.

The clinic is at Ivo Day Centre, Albion Street, Spalding, 1.30pm to 4.30pm, Thursdays. New members are welcome.
