Do you want to make a difference to someone’s life in 2019 and have a few hours to spare?

If so, Lincolnshire Community and Voluntary Service is calling on you to sign up as a volunteer and give as little as a couple of hours a month to lend a hand to a charity or organisation in Grantham.

Grantham has a wide range of organisations of all shapes and sizes who are working to improve the community but need the help of enthusiastic volunteers to continue to deliver their important work.

Whatever your interests, there is almost certainly a volunteering role to suit you, and as well as giving back to the community, volunteering is a great way to make new friends, build your confidence, learn new skills and gain experience in a working environment.

Sophie Kirk, Lincolnshire Community and Voluntary Service area officer for South Kesteven, said: “Taking up a voluntary role is a great way to mix with new people and to develop a new area of interest while doing something positive for the local area.

“We would love to help local people start 2019 with the right voluntary role for them.

“At the moment we have a growing range of voluntary roles registered with our Grantham Volunteer Centre and they vary enormously, so there is likely to be something for most people.

“It’s a fantastic time for people thinking of volunteering as there is a such a range of opportunities available.”

And Sophie is keen to point out that volunteers do not need to be able to make a huge time commitment, adding: “People are busy and want to make a difference in the community but many worry they won’t have the time available to commit.

“When people come to see us in the Volunteer Centre they are often surprised to hear that they can make a real difference to a good cause with just a couple of hours a month.

“Of course, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved more regularly as well.

“Our staff at Grantham Volunteer Centre will talk to you about your interests and experience and how much time you have available and be able to suggest suitable volunteering opportunities for you.”

Currently, organisations including Grantham Foodbank, Grantham Town Football Club, South Lincolnshire Blind Society, Wyndham Park and Grantham Mencap are looking for volunteers.

There are also opportunities to be a Trustee, to mentor young people, to help with canal restoration, business mentoring, help in charity shops, befriending, supporting victims of crime and plenty more.

The Grantham Volunteer Centre is based at the South Kesteven District Council offices on St Peter’s Hill, Grantham.

Sophie added: “Whatever causes people would like to support or experience they are interested in gaining, it’s worth them emailing or phoning to book an appointment to find out what is available that might suit them.”
