Building a Stronger Britain Together project manager Donna Brewer had a busy few days in July attending events focusing on countering far-right extremism and bringing people together.
On July 17 Donna and Lincolnshire Community and Voluntary Service chief executive David Fannin attended the Home Office, Building a Stronger Britain Together partnership event, which included informative presentations and workshops led by leaders in Counter Extremism who shared best practice to communicate a positive message and take practical steps to tackle hate in our communities.
There are over 370 Projects across England and Wales and three were selected to give a presentation about their projects to the Conference – one of those was LCVS and we were extremely proud that we were selected.
Donna spoke to the Conference about the demographics of Lincolnshire, how extremism presents itself in rural communities and gave an overview of the objectives of the Let’s Talk (About Hate) project.
She spoke about what has worked well, what challenges she has faced and where does the project go from here.
Two days later Donna was honored to be invited to the Confronting Extremism Together speech given by the Home Secretary, Rt Hon Sajid Javid MP in London and Sara Khan, the Independent Commissioner for Countering Extremism.
Mr. Javid called for further integration within societies, help for more people to learn English, greater support for Communities and a celebration of National Identity.
